First Screening of Today's Military: Extraordinary People. Extraordinary Opportunities.
The Department of Defense (DoD) announced January 30 the launch of Today's Military, a one-hour film that provides a unique glimpse into the lives of 11 servicemembers for whom Military service was the key to remarkable careers.
The documentary, which launched at an exclusive premiere event at the Pentagon, takes the viewer from Hawaii to Afghanistan, spanning every branch of the Military Service, in search of extraordinary people who have achieved extraordinary success.
The multi-Service documentary is designed to reach approximately 80 percent of American households by April 2006 through a variety of vehicles, including the following:
- Premiere Event. On January 26, 180 VIPs screened the new documentary at the Pentagon, hosted by Dr. David S.C. Chu.
- Network Television. From January through April 2006, the documentary will be broadcast in syndication across the United States and in many major markets, including San Francisco, Washington, and Atlanta.
- Online Media. Through April 2006, JAMRS is partnering with the Discovery Network to develop an awareness campaign in support of the documentary. Campaign elements range from a co-branded micro-site to online media.
- In-Flight Movie. In April 2006, a 13-minute version of the film will be shown during in-flight programming on domestic United Airlines flights.
- Educator Mailing. In April 2006, the Department will mail 40,000 educator DVDs to guidance counselors who have requested additional information for their students.
